WM6 – Sold!

Western Maryland #6 Shay has been sold

February 2025

Yes…it is hard to believe but has been in the works for some time. About a year ago or so, I began to think that it might be time to let the old girl go. I had mostly lost interest in completing her and had come to realize that she was altogether too big for my future plans. Traveling with my small Plymouth switcher was much easier and, when I had a need for steam power, I still have Shay #213 that can travel as well as run at the home club track.

As time went by and I was thinking about this, one day a Facebook post appeared asking if anyone knew of a Shay for sale. I quickly raised my hand and started a conversation with the poster. After some back-and-forth, he said he wanted to come over and see it, along with a couple of friends and family. The visit was soon accomplished, and, after a few days of deliberation, he decided he wanted to buy it. A deposit was made to hold it while he obtained the balance. Unfortunately for the buyer, Hurricane Helene arrived a few weeks later. His home and surrounding area near Ashville, NC was severely impacted. I was more than happy to extend the final payment deadline in light of the circumstances. Finally, in late January 2025, he was ready to complete the purchase. On February 4, around 6pm., he arrived. We loaded her up, along with the boxes of remaining castings and appliances, and she was soon on her way to North Carolina. I am sure she will be very happy there as they complete her construction. One day, I hope to visit and get a ride behind her.
