We couldn't resist another trip to Jennings, FL to go Mach 2 with our hair on fire. It was, again, a very hot day in the low 90's but that did not hinder the fun. I tried a slightly different combination of sprocket sizes on the KX but wasn't able to improve on my top speed. The change, however, did make the bike come out of the corners with much more grunt to get to the next corner. Overall I was very happy with how the KX ran although it is now obvious that something faster will be needed very shortly.
Click here to see a short video of a few laps. My best lap time was 1:44.8 which is an average of 68.72mph. Not too shabby considering the top speed of the KX.
Also, here are some pics from the day (click on the pic to see a larger version). I am on the green bike and Mike is riding the red bike.
My sons talked me into converting my Kawasaki KX450F motocross dirt bike into a "super moto" (a.k.a. "motard") race bike. This weekend we traveled to Jennings Florida to run the bikes on the paved 2-mile road course. The course consists of 14 turns, both left- and right-hand.
My fastest lap was about 1:44 based on what I could find in the videos. That is an average speed of 69.2mph. My top speed was 101mph which isn't too bad for a one-cylinder 450cc 4-stroke bike with 54hp. I was mostly racing against 4-cylinder sport bikes with 120-160hp. They were faster than me on the straights but I was quicker in the twisty sections of the track.
No "chicken strips" on front or rear tire!!
Here are a few pictures. The red Honda 1000RR sport bike is my son, Mike.
