Fairfield Railroad, owned and operated by Wayne and Barb Lass, sponsored a Labor Day run day at their home track this year. DAMAR Southern’s Shay #213 made the short trip across town to participate in the festivities. This was the first run of the Shay since being fitted with a boiler jacket, steam domes, and final fit and finish paint. It was a small group (by design) so everyone had opportunities to ride and to engineer the two running locomotives (Shay #213 and Lady Barbara Pacific #169). A test set of the unit train riding cars was also pulled the majority of the day. The cars ran fine but a few minor glitches were discovered and will be corrected.
Here are some pictures of the day.
